My wife did a quick analysis of the raw data (the same dataset as you used - we think) and discovered that for Q1 2022, male excess deaths are up a lot (+330 ) and females down a lot (-300) so they are cancelling out. This seems strange. Also male deaths 55-64 are +105 and females +30. It looks like there's a big difference between the sexes (at least my wife is happy!)
Noted the same thing. Usually post a breakdown between the sexes, but skipped it this time, not to be too long. Men are indeed showing much more excess than women in the 75-84 and 85+ age groups. It's intriguing, as women live longer than men, so there should be more older women - yet men are dying more in excess. Whatever is driving the excess mortality at present is something which affects men more than women.
Interesting she picks up those 55 age groups. If we look at the 'Z-score' for summer mortality, that 55-59 age group is just off the charts, FAR higher than normal. Mortality in that age group is typically very steady, especially in summer, around 40 deaths per week. This year (and last year) it's 50 deaths per week, 25% higher than normal. Really unusual in that age group, especially summer.
Heart disease has long been a problem in Scotland, especially in the west. In the past it was blamed on lifestyle. and I don't suppose that's improved a lot recently. I hope that some of our health researchers are looking into possible links between the shots and heart disease in middle aged males. These are working age people.
